SHILLONG: On the occasion of Deepawali, SPARK took the initiative to organize a special programme for the underprivileged children with the prime objective to brighten the lives of these less privileged children by making them enjoy the festival and experience it. These children hardly get an opportunity to witness such occasions as they have to work to support their families and in the process, their precious childhood is lost. As Deepawali signifies the festival of lights so through this little initiative, SPARK intended to bring light into the lives of these children and provide them a platform where they can enjoy to the fullest and forget the burden on their tender shoulders.

Diwali also signifies the end of evil and the rise of goodness. SPARK hopes that this Diwali will bring to an end all evil forces and bring positivity in the lives of all including these underprivileged and distressed children.

The SPARK team came together and had the real blast with the children who thronged to the celebration like never before and changed this event into a real festival with their very presence.

During the celebration, lamps were lit by the children with a strong belief that the lights will bring brightness in the life of every child. Children recited a prayer asking for God’s blessing and support.

Thereafter, Shima Modak, founder and president of SPARK acquainted the children about the essence of Diwali and the purpose of celebrating the same together without any kind of discrimination or individual differences. The essence of protecting the environment was also explained to the children thereby motivating them to celebrate the Diwali in an eco-friendly manner.

Other attractions of the programme included some games, dance performances and other recreational activities. The children also made colourful rangoli. Food was provided to all the children. More than 200 children participated in the programme at Anjali, Mawlynrei and Rangmen Centres of SPARK.
