SHILLONG: The Meghalaya unit of the BJP has said that the abrogating of special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, has realized the dreams of the founders of the party for a peaceful and stable region.

“Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, founder of the Jana Sangh and whose footprints BJP follows professed ‘Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan (One Flag, One Constitution and One PM)’ and laid down his life in the pursuit of stability in Jammu and Kashmir,” the State BJP said.

State BJP, spokesperson, Basu Chakraborty said that the party in the State hails and whole heartedly supports the decision of the Modi government to revoke Article 370, scrapping of Article 35A and bifurcation of the State by declaring Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory with its own legislature and Ladakh as a Union Territory.

“This is indeed a victory of democracy brought by the Narendra Modi government. Fulfilling its long term commitment, the BJP has delivered its electoral promise,” the State BJP said.

The State BJP also said that the decision of the Union government to revoke Article 370 and scrapping of Article 35A will help business, industry and tourism flourish in the area, provide a meaningful existence to many who were wrongfully subjugated for long and bring stability to the region.

“Those few who are speaking against and misleading the general public had all these years their own personal agenda and vested interest which they were pursuing for long at the cost of the common man. Misleading and unfounded statements to gain political mileage by some in the opposition quoting Article 371 of the Constitution of India and how this Article could be used in the north eastern states in a similar manner like the present instance of Jammu and Kashmir, was put to rest by Home Minister, Amit Shah in the floor of the House on August 6. He assured the citizens of north east India, that these surmises are unfounded, misleading has no basis,” the Meghalaya BJP said.
