SHILLONG: Amid swirling speculations and growing public concern over the possible spillover of illegal immigrants from Assam into Meghalaya, following intensified eviction and deportation drives across the international border, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong has issued a categorical statement, “There is no confirmed case of infiltration into the state. prompting the government to bolster border surveillance and reassure its citizens of stringent preventive measures. Till today there is no information of any infiltration (into the state),” Tynsong told reporters on Friday, while assuring that the government will immediately inform the public if
any such movement is detected.
Stepping up coordination and security preparedness, Tynsong said, “In fact, we already had a meeting with all the departments concerned. We already instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) and also all district administrations and the SPs concerned to be more vigilant in case there is any kind of influx through Assam (who are trying to enter the state of Meghalaya).”
Asserting that the state machinery is leaving no room for lapses, Tynsong further added, “Security forces, including the BSF, customs, and state police, are on high alert and have been instructed to be more vigilant and proactive in detecting illegal immigrants within the state.”
