SHILLONG: ULFA leader Anup Chetia has said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will finish the identity, culture and demographic structure of the North-east region.

Anup Chetia who met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at his office chamber on Tuesday said the bill will especially affect Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur. When asked about his stand on the Inner Line Permit (ILP), Chetia said its implementation is a big problem.

“But I think in Meghalaya it can be implemented. This is a good opportunity and yes in Meghalaya and even in Assam, ILP should be implemented,” the ULFA leader said. He also was grateful to Conrad for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

“The Chief Minister (Conrad) has taken a bold stand against CAB though he’s partner alliance of the BJP. We appreciate him. We came here to congratulate him. We need leaders like Conrad not only in Meghalaya but whole of Northeast region,” Chetia said.
