SHILLONG: Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) legislator Adelbert Nongrum has stated that he will not participate in the MP election for Rajya Sabha scheduled on June 19.
"I don't want to move away from my principle. Hence I will not take part in the election because I don't want to go against the wishes of the people," Nongrum told The Sentinel.
"The National People's Party (NPP) in the Lok Sabha supported the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). However in Meghalaya, this same party wants the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP). I'm confused with the self-contradictory moves made by the government. Even the common masses of the State are confused," he said, adding that against such a backdrop he will not take party in the Rajya Sabha election.
