Assam Rifles recovers areca nuts in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in the crusade against smuggling activities, personnel of the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), and the Custom Preventive Force, Champhai, recovered 50 bags of areca nuts from an area along the Champhai-mualkawi Road on April 21.

The operation was carried out based on specific information.

The approximate market value of the recovered areca nuts is Rs 12,72,000. The Customs Preventive Force Champhai District has seized the contraband items.

Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. The Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a press release.
