AIZAWL: In a major operation, three people, including two women, were arrested by the Assam Rifles and 4,980 sticks of emulsion explosives weighing around 622.5 kg were seized on the outskirts of Aizawl, Mizoram. The operation was carried out on February 21 after intelligence inputs were received about the presence of explosives in the Sakawrtuichhun area.

The Assam Rifles set up a mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) on Sakawrtuichhun Quarry Road and detected a vehicle heading from Aizawl to Sakawrtuichhun. The vehicle was thoroughly searched, and the explosives were discovered. The Assam Rifles personnel took control of the vehicle and arrested the three persons, who were then handed over to the Mizoram Police along with the explosives.

An official statement from the Assam Rifles confirmed the details of the operation, stating, “Around 4,980 sticks of emulsion explosives were seized. The apprehended individuals, along with the seized vehicle and explosives, were handed over to the Mizoram Police.”

An FIR has been filed and an investigation is currently underway. Initial observations indicate that the suspects are likely operators of stone quarries with surplus explosives, with no evidence of underground elements being involved, a police officer at the Vaivakawn Police Station said. The operation highlights the efforts of security agencies to deal with potential threats and ensure safety in the area.
