Assam Rifles Seize Meth and Heroin Worth Over ₹16 Crore in Back-to-Back Operations in Mizoram

Three held in Aizawl as 1.97 kg meth recovered; ₹9.75 crore heroin bust near Indo-Myanmar border follows shortly after.

Aizawl: In a series of high-impact anti-narcotics operations, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with local authorities, seized methamphetamine and heroin worth over ₹16 crore from different parts of Mizoram this week.

In the first operation conducted on July 24 in Aizawl’s Tuikhuahtlang area, Assam Rifles, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted a vehicle and recovered 1.97 kg of methamphetamine tablets hidden inside. The contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹6.6 crore. Three individuals were apprehended during the joint operation conducted alongside the Aizawl Police and the Excise and Narcotics Department.

The seized items and the arrested individuals were handed over to the concerned department for further legal action, according to a statement by the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) [HQ IGAR (E)]. Just a day earlier, on July 23, Assam Rifles conducted another targeted operation near the Indo-Myanmar border, specifically in the Crossing Point-1 area of Zokhawthar, Champhai district. The operation led to the recovery of 1.227 kg of Heroin No. 4 from a TATA Intra V10 pickup vehicle, with the street value pegged at ₹9.75 crore. The heroin, along with the vehicle, was handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai.
