Covid-19 in Mizoram: 8 more patients test positive; total rises to 42

Guwahati: Eight more persons -- all returnees from the national capital New Delhi -- tested positive for the Covid-19 in Mizoram, taking the total number of cases up to 42. While a single patient has been discharged after recovering from the pathogen, 41 cases are still active.

Out of 244 samples, 8 new cases (3 males and 5 females) were confirmed at the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) laboratory last night. Out of the 8 fresh cases, 5 are from the Champhai District, 2 are from the Khawzawl District, while 1 is from the Siaha district. All of these new patients, aged between 21- 30 are in quarantine and are not showing any symptoms, officials said.

With coronavirus cases across the nation continuing to tick upwards in alarming fashion, the state of Mizoram has once again chosen the safety cushion of the lockdown till June 30 to mitigate the spread of the deadly pathogen. In a notification dated Sunday, June 30, the Mizoram state Government has once against issued orders to continue the lockdown, even as the Central Government has issued new guidelines to lift the restrictions in a graded manner in areas outside the containment zones.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases in India crossed 2.56 lakh cases on Monday after a record number of 9,983 cases were reported in 24 hours, even as the government allowed a number of relaxations after over two months of lockdown. This is the biggest single-day jump in cases as the country recorded over 9,000 cases for the sixth consecutive day.
