Heroin worth Rs 19.50 lakh seized in Champhai district

 MIZORAM: Serchhip Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered heroin number 4 worth Rs. 19.50 lakh in the general area of Zokhawthar (YMA Hall), Champhai district, on Sunday. The operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles and Zokhawthar Police Station based on specific information from their own source about suspected trans-shipment of illegal goods in General Area Zokhawthar (YMA Hall). A mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) was launched by Assam Rifles and Zokhawthar Police in the general area around Zokhawthar YMA Hall on Sunday. The joint team noticed the movement of a suspected Tata 407. The Tata 407 was intercepted by MVCP, and spot checking was carried out, during which it was found that an individual was carrying small pouches of a powdered substance hidden in three soap cases and concealed in a bag that was later confirmed to be Heroin Number 4 by the team. The seized consignment and apprehended individual were handed over to Zokhawthar Police Station, Champhai District, on Sunday for further investigation and legal proceedings, stated a press release.
