AIZAWL: The birth of India's first "Gen Beta" baby took place in Mizoram's Aizawl on 1 January, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the nation. The boy, who was born at the Government Civil Hospital at 12:03 AM, marks the beginning of the new generation, known as "Gen Beta," which includes children born after 2025.
Another baby boy was born at 12:35 AM at the Presbyterian Synod Hospital, which is situated in the Durtlang neighbourhood on the outskirts of the city, after the first birth of the year.
Aizawl hospitals reported 36 babies were born between 3 PM on December 31 and 7 AM on January 1. However, five deaths were reported around the same time period, thus the celebrations were marred by grief. Eleven people, four of whom had fractured bones, were also treated at the Civil Hospital for injuries they had received in auto accidents.
However, in a horrifying incident on December 29 that took place in Maharashtra's Gangakhed Naka, Kundlik Uttam Kale, 32, allegedly set his wife, Maina, on fire after an argument over her giving birth to their third daughter.
Kale poured petrol on her during a quarrel and ignited the blaze. Maina ran outside screaming, but despite efforts to extinguish the fire, she succumbed to severe burns while being rushed to the hospital.
The accused had been arrested. Similarly, earlier this month in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills, a mother of six was brutally set ablaze by her husband in Niriang Village, leaving her with critical injuries.
