Mizoram ‘Deeply Aggrieved’ by the Violence in Manipur: Zoramthanga

The CM also mentioned in his speech that a sum of Rs 5 Cr was allocated by his government towards the relief and rehabilitation of the displaced people.

AIZAWL: The chief minister of Mizoram on Tuesday mentioned that it was very unfortunate that the violence in Manipur is continuing for over three months and no concrete action has been taken so far to stop it from happening. He added that the conditions in the neighbouring state have ‘deeply aggrieved’ the Mizo society.

Zoramthanga said that his government is keeping a close watch on the situation in Manipur while mentioning that they have taken the necessary steps to evacuate the Mizo pubic stranded in the state. These include the students and employees who were in the state before the ethnic violence broke out in the state. He added that his government had also undertaken relief and rehabilitation measures for a large number of people who were displaced from Manipur because of the violence.

“The entire country has been deeply pained by the violent ethnic conflict which erupted in our neighbouring state of Manipur in May. The series of unfortunate and deplorable incidents, which have unfolded since then, have deeply aggrieved the entire Mizo society,” said the CM while taking part in the Independence Day celebrations. The central celebrations of the 77th Independence Day of the country were organised in Aizawl and the National Flag was hoisted by the chief minister.

The CM also mentioned in his speech that a sum of Rs 5 Cr was allocated by his government towards the relief and rehabilitation of the displaced people. He also said that over 2388.50 quintals of food grains were distributed among the affected people. He thanked the civil societies, NGOs, churches and individuals who contributed towards the relief measures in both cash and kind. Additionally, he requested the central government to release a sum of Rs 10 Cr towards the fulfillment of the basic needs of all the people displaced by the ethnic violence.
