Mizoram : Fake Indian Currency Note Seized, 5 Held

The seizure was made in Mizoram's Champhai district and the items were worth Rs 8,52,500

AIZAWL : Amidst the ongoing attempts of the NE state administrations to crack down on all sort of smuggling activities in their respective regions, a seizure was made on Wednesday in Mizoram's Champhai district. 

Based on prior confidential information, the Champhai police department conducted a raid and seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth Rs 8,52,500. The episode took place in Zotlang in Champhai, situated in Mizoram.

1705 fake notes were recovered during the operation. Five persons were apprehended in relation to the case. The accused has been identified as Laltlanjova of 38 years old, Lalnunjauva of 25 years old, Lalhriat Puia of 27 years, Lalthang Maoia of 24 years and Rosang Juala of 38 years old.

As per sources, all the accused hailed from Zotlang, Champhai. A case has been registered under IPC section 489B/489C.

According to a police personnel, a person from Venglai, Lunglei was nabbed by the cops regarding the same case on Wednesday evening. The individual has been identified as Lalbiaktluanga of 48 years old and the arrest was made in Aizawl.

A team of Kulikawn police station initiated action to make the arrest based on a tip-off. However, investigation is still on in order to nab the rest of the culprits involved in the case.

Prior to this incident, two persons identified as Babul Krishna Chakma and Rajesh Chakma was arrested for smuggling fake currency notes. As per the reports, both the accused were residents of Mizoram.

The interception was done in Agartala and the seized item was worth Rs 1.21 lakhs. As per sources, the notes were printed outside India. Recently in the month of December, drugs worth Rs 60 crore was seized from Mizoram's Champhai district.

Three individuals got apprehended in relation with the matter. The drugs were sealed in tea boxes inside a truck. A team of police intercepted the truck at the Khankawn police check gate, in Mizoram-Myanmar border.
