Mizoram University Hosts Workshop to Promote Women-Led Entrepreneurship

A workshop in Mizoram launched the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) and the Bana Kaih Scheme, promoting women's economic empowerment and supporting 517 entrepreneurs, including 140 women.

AIZAWL: A state-level workshop on women-led development through entrepreneurship was held at the Mizoram University Auditorium, which was a turning point for women's economic empowerment in the state. The event witnessed the launch of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) Mizoram Chapter by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, with Dr. VK Paul, a member of NITI Aayog, serving as the guest of honour.

Mizoram has distinguished itself as the first northeastern state to establish a WEP chapter, a move acknowledged by the Chief Minister as part of NITI Aayog’s broader initiative. Besides, the state government launched the Bana Kaih Scheme, which aims to assist young and budding entrepreneurs. 517 Progress Partners have been selected under this program, of which 140 are females.

Dr. VK Paul was impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit and financial independence of women in Mizoram, emphasizing that WEP is an essential tool for economic development. He encouraged women entrepreneurs to use the resources offered by the platform, highlighting the national significance of empowering women.

The workshop also witnessed the launch of different WEP initiatives such as the Mizoram Yashasvani Program, Swavalambini Program, WEP Award to Reward Programme, WEP App, and Awards to Women Entrepreneurs. The guest officials spoke to the gathering, emphasizing the role of women enterprises. The sessions were aimed at improving the role of women in entrepreneurship, which would go toward achieving national vision Viksit Bharat.
