KOHIMA: The Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in the state of Nagaland to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. He mentioned the central government will take all possible steps to resolve the naga political problems as early as possible.
Speaking from a political rally in the state of Nagaland, the home minister of the country mentioned that he is hopeful that the very controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act will be removed from the state of Nagaland within the next three-four years.
The Union Minister is in the Northeastern state for two days to take part in political campaigns. He took part in a rally in the Mon region on Monday and another one in the Tuensang town in the Northeastern part of the state on Tuesday.
During his speech at the rally on Tuesday, the Union Home Minister mentioned that there are certain issues related to the development and the rights of the people of Eastern Nagaland. According to the Bharatiya Janata Party leader, these problems will be soon addressed soon after the polls. He also added that the peace talks with the extremist groups are in moving towards completion and long-lasting peace will soon be established in the region.
He also claimed that the state has seen a nearly 70% fall in the number of violent incidents the state, a 60% fall in the number of deaths of people belonging to the security personnel and an 83% fall in the number of deaths of civilians in the northeast region after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power.
The solution to the Naga political issues is one of the core agendas of the Bharatiya Janta Party- Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party coalition for the upcoming elections which is due to take place in the next week.
