Kohima: As the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Nagaland for a period of 6 more months, several Naga outfits denounced the Centre's decision.

Terming the government's decision as unacceptable, these organisations said that it's an attempt to them and their generations.

The central government on Thursday declared the entire Nagaland as a ''disturbed area'' for six more months with effect from December 30 under the AFSPA.

According to a national news agency report, while commenting on the same, the K Elu Ndang, general secretary of Naga Hoho said that the Government of India has ignored the wishes of the Naga People.

''Naga people will not accept it,'' he added.

Meanwhile, according to the report, Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) has called a meeting on January 7 to discuss the extension of AFSPA.

The Nagaland government on Sunday had asserted that a committee would soon be instituted to look into the withdrawal of the AFSPA from the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 23rd and the same was attended by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nagaland deputy CM Y Patton and NPFLP leader TR Zeliang, according to an official statement.

The demand to repeal AFSPA picked up after a botched-up army operation against insurgents in Nagaland leading to the killings of 14 civilians.
