An official stated on Sunday that only six candidates from various political parties had filed their nomination papers for the Nagaland Assembly election on February 27, with two days remaining for the deadline.

Two of the six are members of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), while one is a BJP associate. In addition, there are two independent candidates and one candidate from the Rising People's Party, a newcomer to Nagaland politics.

The NDPP and the BJP are vying for a second consecutive term in office in the northeastern state with a 60-member assembly on the basis of a 40:20 seat-sharing agreement.

The Naga Peoples' Front (NPF) has nominated 22 candidates, whereas the Congress has announced 25 candidates.

Several other parties, including the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), the National People's Party, and the Nationalist Congress Party, have also announced their candidates.

Tuesday is the deadline for nominations.
