Nagaland Chief Minister Inaugurates 50 Seater Digital Planetarium and Space Education Centre

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the first innovation hub and space education science centre with a 50 seater digital planetarium in Nagaland on Friday. Notably, this is Nagaland’s first baby step towards science and innovation and in its first step itself, the state has achieved a milestone that has not been matched by many Indian states yet.

Happy and proud to inaugurate the Science Centre in Dimapur, the CM says that by 2030, India will be among the top three leaders in the field of science and technology. Rio also stated that the present day challenge is to utilize science and technology in solving basic problems and meet the aspirations of the people.

He added, “How do we build roads that don’t get washed away with rains? How do we control landslides? How do we improve agricultural productivity? How do we control diseases and epidemics? These are all basic governance issues that can be solved by science and technology.”

Now with the addition of the two new projects, the Nagaland Science Centre has got a completely new look. Both the projects are funded by the Union Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the National Council of Science Museum, the government of India. Through the establishment of the planetarium and the space education science centre, the government looks forward to engaging the youth of the state in creative hobbies and activities surrounding the field of science and technology. It aims at inculcating the capabilities of critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills and encourages in local innovations in science and technology.

The youth f the state will find enough scope to be acquainted with science and technology as the hub has many components such as the tech lab (robotics and microprocessor programming), innovation resource centre, innovation lab, design studio with the 3D printer etc.

Seeing the positive impact the space education centre can leave on the youngsters f the state, Rio says, “Setting up of the space education centre and the innovation hub will sparkle the minds of the young enthusiastic students and am sure we will be able to give wings to the ideas of the young that can help them to dream more and aspire more.”
