Nagaland: Dimapur Records 618 Crime Cases and 577 Arrests in 2024

From January to December 21, 2024, 618 criminal cases were filed under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special & Local Laws (SLL) in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts.

Dimapur: According to the Office of the Commissioner of Police's annual crime report, from January to December 21, 2024, 618 criminal cases were filed under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special & Local Laws (SLL) in the three districts of Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland.

According to the report, as of December 21, 577 people had been arrested in relation to these instances. A thorough analysis of the registered cases, arrests, and notable seizures was provided by the data, which covers crimes under both the IPC and SLL. This underscored the continuous difficulties that law enforcement organisations face.

There are now 445 criminal cases filed under the IPC, and 318 people have been arrested. With 206 incidents reported and 75 arrests, stealing stands out as the most prominent category of crimes. There are also 62 cases of criminal breach of trust, 47 cases of extortion, and 21 cases of kidnapping and abduction.

The Liquor Prohibition Act (NLTP Act)
One important area of enforcement is still the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act. 81 arrests were made and 73 cases were recorded under this Act. 7,661.67 litres of different brands of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were seized by law authorities.

SLL-related offences
259 people were arrested as a consequence of 173 cases that were filed under various Special & Local Laws. With 51 complaints filed and 116 arrests made, the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) saw the most instances.

Significant quantities of illegal substances have been confiscated by the police, including: Heroin/Brown Sugar: 5 kg & 488.55 grammes (monetary value: Rs 1,646,565), Ganja: 446 kg (monetary value: Rs 535,200), Opium: 8 kg 702 g (monetary value: Rs 8,702,000), Crystal Meth: 348 g (monetary value: Rs 3,480,000), and cash of Rs 2,74,062.

In addition, there are 32 cases, 48 arrests under the Arms Act, 13 cases and 11 arrests under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), 2 cases under the Explosives Act, and 1 case under the ITA Act.
