KOHIMA: Nagaland commemorated the sixth edition of Honey Bee Day on Thursday at the multi-utility facility at 6th Mile, Sovima in Chumoukedima district, with the goal of inspiring young people to pursue beekeeping as a sustainable source of income.
The Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) organised the event with the theme "Bee Vibes: Give Bees a Chance."
Abu Metha, the chairman of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland and adviser to the chief minister of Nagaland, spoke at the celebration as the special guest and stated that there is a significant demand for Nagaland honey both domestically and internationally.
In order to promote honey tourism in the state, he also revealed that the Nagaland government intends to turn the NBHM's multipurpose facility into a museum dedicated to honey.
He urged beekeepers, who are the main players in the state's honey business, to combine modern technology with traditional beekeeping methods in order to increase honey output. He also promoted the documentation of the state's traditional beekeeping methods.
Metha was thrilled that students from colleges and institutions were joining in the festivities. He encouraged them to take up beekeeping as a source of income because Nagaland's honey business has a lot of potential for growth. The state's bee growers are receiving whatever assistance NBHM can provide, including technological know-how.
Metha underlined honey's numerous uses and health advantages while highlighting bees' contribution to economic growth and ecosystem protection. Additionally, in order to help beekeepers, he called for greater collaboration between the state government and NBHM.
