KOHIMA: The Department of Power Nagaland has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with M/s. Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd. for the development of a 20 MW solar power plant at Tizit, Mon district. The agreement was formalized at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Conference Hall on August 20, attended by senior officials from the Power, Finance, and Law & Justice departments, along with representatives from Tvaksas Renewable.

Chief Engineer (T&G), Er. Nitovi A. Wotsa, highlighted that the state's peak power demand is currently 203 MW, projected to rise to 482 MW by 2034-35. He remarked, "The State encourages private-sector participation to promote local generation and augment available capacity in order to meet the growing electricity demand," a press release said.

Principal Secretary, Power, stressed the importance of enhancing Nagaland's generation capacity, stating, "Solar projects can be implemented within a short period of time and are therefore suitable for the state." He urged the developer to complete the project ahead of schedule and to provide local employment during both construction and operation.

The 20 MW solar plant at Lapa Lampong Village will be Nagaland's first private solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, expected to be commissioned within 20 months. It will supply clean energy at a fixed tariff of ?4.12 per kWh, as approved by the Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission, under a 25-year PPA. The initiative is anticipated to contribute significantly to the state's renewable energy goals and create jobs, particularly in the remote Mon region.

Director of Tvaksas Renewable, Smt. Bhakti Dave, said, "The 25-year Power Purchase Agreement ensures predictable electricity costs and long-term budget savings for the state." She emphasized that the project will strengthen local infrastructure, drive district-level development, and help reduce the state's carbon footprint.

Hardik Dave, another Tvaksas Director, said, "The real work begins after signing the agreement," promising full dedication to smooth execution and long-term partnership with the Nagaland Power Department. He noted the project's contribution to India's target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030, in line with COP26 commitments. Finance Director Nayaan Ratandhayara added, "The 20 MW solar plant at Tizit will deliver around 35 million units of power annually to Nagaland's grid for the next 25 years, reducing dependence on outside supply and saving costs." He highlighted that the project will avoid nearly 25,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year and create jobs for local youth.

Tvaksas Renewable aims to eventually scale the program up to 100 MW, bringing long-term investment, skill development, and climate finance opportunities to Nagaland.
