Kohima: The government of Nagaland has received an urgent request from the Mangkolemba subdivision's Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for the construction of a Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) station in the area. Mangkolemba's lack of emergency services and essential infrastructure has made the local population susceptible to fire-related disasters, according to the CSOs. To support this important request, the CSOs wrote an official letter to S Kiusumew Yimchunger, the Advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guard & Civil Defence.
Mangkolemba confronts major logistical and geographic obstacles because it is roughly 65 km from the district headquarters. Because of the terrible state of the roads leading to the subdivision, emergency personnel find it challenging to arrive on the scene quickly. The CSOs claim that because of the bad condition of the roads, it is nearly hard for fire departments to arrive at the scene before serious damage is done.
The issue is made worse by the lengthy response time from the closest Fire and Emergency Services station, which is located in Mokokchung. The CSOs underlined that the neighborhood cannot successfully prevent fire crises if there is no local fire station.
Mangkolemba, which includes the three main ranges of Tzurangkong, Japukong, and Jangpetkong, is one of the oldest subdivisions in the Mokokchung district. The subdivision has been neglected in terms of infrastructural development, especially in emergency services, despite its size and population. The lack of a fire station in such a crucial location, according to the CSOs, is frustrating because it shows carelessness and puts the community in danger during emergencies.“The absence of a fire station in such a significant area reflects neglect and alienates the residents, leaving them vulnerable during emergencies,” the letter noted.
