Kohima: The PWD Minister of Nagaland, Tongpang Ozukum is shocked over Meghalaya Urban Affairs Department's proposal to swap the land where Nagaland Medical lodge construction is going on with another plot of land. The lodge construction was going on in front of NEIGHRIMS, Shillong.

Minister Ozukum said that PWD department has all the legal papers which say that the land was bought on lease for 30 years. Construction work has already been executed in the designated plot of land.

"Urban Affairs Department, Meghalaya should give a serious thought on their proposal of swapping land of Nagaland Medical Lodge with another plot of land after eight years of the lease agreement," Ozukum said.

He further said this a matter of trust and confidence between the two governments.

Speaking about the proposal, he said, "The Housing Department is yet to receive the proposal of the Meghalaya Urban Affairs Departments letter officially, but we have seen in the WhatsApp."

Meghalaya's Urban Affairs Department wrote the proposal letter on September 30, 2020. The letter, addressed to the Principal Secretary, Home, Nagaland, offered a new plot of land measuring 2.34 acres of land. The new plot is located a kilometre away from the present location.

Ozukum said that the Meghalaya's Urban Affairs Department is ready to bear all the expenses of the work, which has already been executed at the Nagaland Medical Lodge. However, the Nagaland PWD Department cannot accept such proposals after eight years of the lease agreement, said Ozukum.

Ozukum hopes that the Meghalaya government will honour the land lease agreement that they have previously signed and allow Nagaland government to build their Medical lodge without any further delay.
