KOHIMA: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully conducted the first trial run of a freight train on the Shokhuvi-Molvom section of the Dhansiri-Zubza New Line Project with Multi Unit (MU) Locomotives in Nagaland on 11th February, 2025.

This marks an important milestone in improving railway connectivity in the region. The train reached Molvom at 6:00 PM, signaling progress toward completing this 15.419 km stretch, which is expected to be operational in the coming months.

The trial run is significant for Molvom, as the station will become the third major railway station in Nagaland, after Dimapur and Shokhuvi. This new rail link will enhance regional mobility, providing Nagaland with better access to the national railway network.

Once completed, it will improve the movement of both passengers and goods, bridging logistical gaps and promoting economic growth.

The development is expected to benefit local businesses in the Molvom area, offering a more reliable and cost-effective transportation option for goods.

With railway freight services in place, local traders, industries, and small-scale manufacturers will have direct access to national markets, improving trade efficiency.

This connectivity is also expected to encourage new business opportunities, attract investment, and contribute to the socio-economic growth of Nagaland.

NFR remains committed to expanding railway infrastructure in the Northeast, with this successful trial being a step toward a more connected and economically vibrant Nagaland.
