GUWAHATI: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has signed a landmark agreement with IRCON International Limited for the maintenance of electrification infrastructure, including Overhead Equipment (OHE) and Power Supply Installation (PSI), a first-of-its-kind initiative by Indian Railways to enhance the efficiency and reliability of electric traction systems.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday between Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR and HM Gupta, Chief Managing Director of IRCON. The partnership primarily deals with the electrification works on Lumding and Tinsukia divisions where the process is in full swing.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, said most sections in these divisions are already electrified and the remaining 425 Route Kilometers (RKM) will be electrified by June 2025. With this pace of electrification, NFR has increased the requirements for skilled manpower and for that purpose has tied up with IRCON under a two-year contract.
The agreement enables NFR to leverage IRCON’s expertise and cutting-edge technology for effective maintenance of the electrification systems. This partnership is expected to ensure uninterrupted operations and contribute to the sustainable development of the railway network in the region.
As part of this partnership, IRCON will look after the ongoing maintenance activities and provide technical support so that the infrastructure is robust and reliable, which also meets the overall objective of Indian Railways to have sustainable and efficient rail operations.
