GANGTOK: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on November 26 unveiled a significant funding package that will promote natural and organic farming in Sikkim.

The central government made this announcement in a meeting with Puran Kumar Gurung, the agriculture minister of Sikkim, emphasizing its commitment to promoting sustainable farming methods in the state.

He assured that government support for organic farming efforts would be full to ensure the long-term growth and viability of the sector. To support the growth of organic farming in Sikkim, he pledged that the funds would be easily obtained to guarantee the continued development of the required resources, infrastructure, and technologies. Leaders in the agriculture sector are also aware that Sikkim is known for its organic certification.

This development comes after a series of consultations between Chouhan and state agriculture ministers, which reflects the focus of the government on satisfying the varied agricultural needs of states across India.

Balancing this, Sikkim Lok Sabha MP, Indra Hang Subba reasserted his support for advocating the state's cause during the winter session of Parliament.

As a Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) leader, Subba attended a strategic meeting convened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended by senior parliamentarians. The meeting was held with the objective of aligning legislative priorities for the session and Subba worked closely with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in securing adequate resources for state agricultural and developmental initiatives.
