Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said that any employee who is caught using narcotics will be fired immediately.

With Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang declaring that surprise drug tests will be carried out in every department, Sikkim is launching a significant campaign against drug usage among government workers. He issued a warning as well that if any employee is found using drugs, he/she will be immediately dismissed from service.

The declaration was a component of a larger plan to address the state's escalating drug misuse problem. Tamang stated during his speech at Manan Kendra that the action was required to guarantee "accountability and integrity within the government system."
Speaker MN Sherpa, Deputy Speaker Raskumari Thapa, Social Welfare Minister Sanjeet Lepcha, as well as senior officials, educators, non-governmental organizations, volunteers, and students, attended the event, which was organized by the Social Welfare Department.

Tamang explained that drug usage is not an isolated problem but rather a hazard that is ingrained in communities.
He urged young people to choose healthier paths and promised support for those seeking rehabilitation, calling for coordinated action from families, schools, law enforcement, and local organizations to combat the epidemic.

Enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation are the three main pillars of the administration's zero-tolerance policy, which is part of its larger objective to make Sikkim a drug-free state.
