Sikkim: Phurba Tamang Bags Silver at Tata Marathon in Kolkata

SIKKIM: Phurba Tamang, known as the Marathon Girl of Sikkim, has once again brought pride to her state by winning the silver medal in the 25K Tata Steel Kolkata Marathon, competing in the 25-29 years age category.

Phurba completed the challenging race in an impressive time of 1 hour, 52 minutes, and 27 seconds, securing second place behind Puja Mondol of West Bengal, who claimed the top spot. Phurba outran Bandasharai Marwein from Meghalaya, who finished in third place.

Currently serving under the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim, Phurba’s remarkable achievement is a testament to her dedication and rigorous training. Basant Pradhan has been her coach, and his guidance has been instrumental in enhancing her skills.

Phurba Tamang added another feather to her cap after she won the silver medal in the World 10K Bengaluru Marathon earlier in April.

Phurba won the silver in the women's 25-29 age category. Phurba Tamang achieved a remarkable feat by winning the third edition of the Tsomgo Ultra Marathon in March. Tamang covered a staggering distance of 75 kilometers with a commendable time of 9 hours, 48 minutes, and 16 seconds.

She had also clinched the bronze in the Women's Open Category of the 9th Edition of the Apollo Tyres New Delhi Marathon held in February this year.
