Sikkim’s Old Silk Route In Zuluk Conferred With ‘Most Scenic Route In India’ Award

GANGTOK: The Old Silk Route in Zuluk, Sikkim has been awarded the 'Most Scenic Route in India' at the India Today Tourism Survey and Awards 2025. The award was given at a ceremony held at The Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi, where tourism industry leaders attended to honor the country's best travel destinations.

The award was conferred by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, to Tshering T. Bhutia, Minister of Tourism & Civil Aviation for the Government of Sikkim. He was joined by C.S. Rao, Principal Secretary of Tourism & Civil Aviation for Sikkim, underscoring the importance of this award for the state.

Located at an elevation of 10,100 feet, Zuluk is a section of the ancient Silk Route that was once used for trade activities all over Asia. The area is renowned for offering spectacular views of Mount Kanchenjunga and has the popular Zig Zag Road, with 32 hairpin turns, offering an experience of adventure to the tourists.

This recognition contributes to the reputation of Sikkim as a global tourist paradise, renowned for its rich heritage, ethereal landscapes and focus on nature tourism. The Government of Sikkim is dedicated to ensuring sustainable tourism initiatives with the unique beauty and historical significance of this fabulous trip intact.
