Assam Rifles Seizes Gold Worth Rs. 1 Crore, 2,289 kg Marijuana In Tripura

The gold originated from Dubai and was smuggled through Bangladesh before reaching Tripura, where it was set to be processed before being transported to New Delhi.

AGARTALA: In a major crackdown on smuggling, Assam Rifles and the Customs Department carried out a well-coordinated operation in Badarghat, West Tripura, leading to the seizure of 1.15 kg of gold. The intercepted consignment included 14 bars and unfinished 24-carat ornaments, valued at Rs. 1.02 crore.

According to intelligence sources, the gold originated from Dubai and was smuggled through Bangladesh before reaching Tripura, where it was set to be processed before being transported to New Delhi. Two individuals linked to the operation have been apprehended and are under investigation.

In another major breakthrough, security forces confiscated 2,286.9 kg of marijuana in BIjoynagar, West Tripura. The seized drugs, with an estimated international market value of Rs. 10.29 crore, marks one of the largest narcotics haul in the region’s history.

Acting on specific intelligence, Assam Rifles swiftly moved in to intercept the consignment, preventing a massive quantity of illegal substances from reaching the market. Two suspects were detained, and the confiscated drugs have been handed over to authorities for further legal proceedings.

Assam Rifles is actively working to stop smuggling and drug trafficking as part of the Nasha Mukt Tripura mission. Since January 2025, they have carried out 20 successful operations and seized illegal goods worth Rs. 65.56 crore.
