AGARTALA: In a series of successful operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border on January 26, 2025.

The troops managed to rescue cattle and seized a variety of contraband items, including Ganja (marijuana) and Phensedyl syrup, with an estimated total value of Rs. 8,65,219.

Earlier this month, Assam Rifles seized 60,000 methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba, valued at Rs. 12 crore in Tripura. The operation took place in the Salbagan area of West Tripura district.

Two drug peddlers, Kanai Das (36) and Kishan Kumar Sarkar (32), both from West Tripura, were arrested. The seized drugs and the accused have been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation.

This operation highlights the Assam Rifles' continued commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region. The authorities are actively working to curb the growing menace of drugs in Tripura, which has seen a rise in arrests and drug-related cases in recent years.

Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha recently shared that 1,665 cases under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were filed in the past three years, with nearly 2,700 drug peddlers arrested.

He also noted the significant increase in HIV/AIDS cases, with over 10,000 affected individuals in 2023, highlighting the grave public health concerns linked to drug abuse. The state's law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to tackle the drug crisis and its widespread impact on public health.
