Agartala: Settling a long-standing issue, the Tripura High Court has passed an order that married daughter of a government employee will be eligible to get a job under die in harness case.

One Hamsauti Reang, the married daughter of Bishnupada Reang of Bagafa in South Tripura district, had filed a writ petition challenging the State government order denying a job to her in die in harness scheme.

Bishnupada Reang (52), a group D employee of Tribal Research and Cultural Institute, died on February 28, 2017. Since he did not have a son, his married daughter, Hamsuti Reang, approached the government to get a job under die in harness, but the government rejected her plea.

The daughter of the former employee, who is a graduate, filed a writ petition before the Tripura High Court on December 18 last year challenging the government’s decision.

The case came up for hearing in the court headed by Chief Justice Akil Kureshi. In the verdict, the Chief Justice said there was the clause that a married daughter of a government employee is not eligible for a government job in the revised policy for die in harness. It means married daughters of government employees could also be eligible to die in harness cases.

While passing the judgment on March 3, the Chief Justice directed the government to consider the petitioner’s case within the next three months.
