AGARTALA: There is a severe food crisis in the Ananda Bazar refugee camp where 317 Bengali refugees are taking shelter. These people were evicted from the nearby villages on December 10 following attacks by miscreants from Reang refugee camps, in the name of anti-CAA protest.

The women, children and others are staying in the Ananda Bazar Police Station without any basic facilities in an inhuman condition. Government has allocated only Rs 2,000 per day for providing ration which is too inadequate for such a large number of people.

In the absence of sufficient supply, the people are being forced to survive only on ‘Khichidi’ every day. As a result, many camp inmates are suffering from malnutrition and other related ailments; mention may be made of Biswamitra Das (40), Bina Rani Das (26), Rita Rani Das (60), Trisula Das (20), Baidik Roy (2), Suparna Das (27), Anjali Roy (50), Biswajit Das (13) among others. What is matter of serious concern is that the state administration has turned a blind eye to the problems of these refugees; and no medical facilities are being extended to the ailing people of the camp.

Moreover, though 53 days have lapsed since they came to this camp no security arrangement has been made so that they can return to their houses which now remains unguarded. As a result, 20 cows, more than 50 goats and many other things have been stolen or looted by miscreants. Mysteriously enough, though the administration is aware of all these happenings yet it is not taking any step to counter such incidents.
