AGARTALA: Eighty young people from different parts of Tripura have got a new lease of life with a training programme under the Chief Minister Skill Development Scheme (Mukhya Mantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa). The program aimed at imparting skills to the unemployed youth to lead a sustainable livelihood has incorporated new modules that are bringing a change in their lives.

Supported by the state's Skill Development Department, the training is being conducted at "Arkaneer," an institute operated by the NB Institute for Rural Technology in Sekerkote. Among the participants, 50 trainees are enrolled in a program focused on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in lemongrass cultivation, divided into two batches of 25. Additionally, a group of 30 trainees is receiving instruction in solar technology, with the aim of certifying them as solar technicians upon completion.

The training program was inaugurated on January 27 by Advocate Samir Ranjan Ghosh, Chairman of the State Tea Development Corporation. Dr. Arindam Choudhury, master trainer of lemongrass cultivation, noted that the crop enjoys significant demand in the global market, especially in the perfume industry as well as in the cosmetic and Ayurveda industries.

The two-month course on solar technology covers different areas of solar appliances and is instructed by engineers and trainers certified in Training of Trainers (TOT). Engineer P.L. Ghosh pointed out that the government is promoting the use of solar energy as a friendly and harmless alternative. With the increasing installation of solar technology, many job opportunities for technicians will arise in the sector.
