AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said the state has been using artificial intelligence (AI) to identify tax evaders. Addressing GST ‘Jaagrookta Abhiyan’ at Prajna Bhavan, the chief minister stated that tax collection directly contributes to the rapid development of the northeastern state.
“Of the state’s annual budget of Rs 27,800 crore in the 2024-25 financial year, its revenue stands at Rs 3,700 crore. Only Rs 10,000 crore remained after meeting the non-plan expenditure—salary, pension, loan, and interest on loan. The state needs to pay 25 percent of its revenue (Rs 3,700 crore) to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and 10 percent to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs),” he said. He stated that enhanced tax collection is essential for accelerated development.
The chief minister said the government is committed to maximizing tax revenue to facilitate infrastructure development. He said, “In response to tax evasion, such as fraudulent input tax credits and misuse of the GST Analytics & Intelligence Network (GAIN), the tax department has introduced artificial intelligence to prevent misuse of the existing system.”
"We should include those who avoid GST, as the fund is essential for accelerating development and infrastructure construction." Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants India to become Viksit Bharat by 2047. It will not be possible if we fail to develop each state by 2047,” he said.
