AGARTALA: The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested five, including three Bangladeshi nationals, one citizen of Nigeria, and an Indian tout from different operations along the Indo-Bangladesh border at Tripura.

These have been part of BSF's intensified efforts to cope with cross-border crimes mainly on infiltration and exfiltration activities.

In the Kaiyedhepa area of Sepahijala district, BSF personnel apprehended Nigerian national Maxwel Nweke, who is reported to be 34 years old. According to reports, the security forces detained Nweke as he was reportedly trying to cross the border into Bangladesh.

Very soon, the BSF apprehended Indian national Suraj Prasad from Amtali in the West Tripura district. He was reportedly a tout and allegedly involved in facilitating illegal cross-border movements.

In another operation, BSF troops apprehended a 15-year-old girl from Chandpur village in Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh. She was caught trying to enter India illegally through the border in North Tripura district.

A joint operation conducted by the BSF and another security agency in West Tripura led to the capture of two more Bangladeshi nationals. These individuals, hailing from the Bagerhat district of Bangladesh, were found engaging in unauthorized activities along the border.

The BSF has increased its alertness and operational activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border, especially in Tripura, to counter the increasing menace of cross-border crimes. These include human trafficking, smuggling, and illegal migration. The BSF is enhancing border security by deploying advanced surveillance systems and increasing patrols to prevent such activities.

These incidents point out the issues in managing one of the world's most porous borders, and hence, coordinated efforts are required from border agencies and intelligence networks.

The individuals who have been detained are under investigation, and efforts are being made to uncover the larger networks that may be involved in these operations.  The BSF is committed to securing India's borders and maintaining national security against transnational threats.
