SEPAHIJALA: The Border Security Force (BSF) achieved a significant breakthrough by seizing 2.180 kg of smuggled gold, estimated to be worth Rs 1.71 crore, near the Indo-Bangladesh border on December 4, at BOP NC Nagar in the Sepahijala district of Tripura.
Based on specific input, BSF troops laid an ambush along the Indo-Bangladesh border. During the operation, BSF personnel noticed suspicious movements around 8:45 PM by a group of people near the border fence. When challenged, the group managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
BSF troops conducted a thorough search of the area, leading to the recovery of gold in the form of bars, biscuits, and nuts, despite the challenging circumstances. The seized items have been handed over to customs authorities for further legal proceedings.
A BSF spokesperson stated "This operation reflects the BSF’s commitment to securing India’s borders and combating cross-border smuggling. Such recoveries underscore our readiness and resolve.”
This seizure is notably among the most substantial gold recoveries on the Indo-Bangladesh border in recent years, underscoring the BSF’s crucial role in preventing illegal activities and ensuring national security.
