AGARTALA: Acting on intelligence inputs, the Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted two infiltration attempts along the India-Bangladesh border on Sunday, detaining a total of nine individuals.
Around 4:30 PM in Dhaniabari, a BSF patrolling unit stopped four people trying to cross the International Border from Bangladesh. During questioning, two of them—Bimal Chakma and Sushil Chakma—said they were from Khagrachari district in Bangladesh. The other two, Daduni Chakma and Nandini Chakma, claimed to be Indian citizens from Nutan Bazar, South Tripura.
At around 5:30 PM, BSF personnel near Border Outpost Dyke VIII saw suspicious movements and caught five people trying to cross the International Border. Among them, Mongkrajai Marma and Brisha Moni Chakma were identified as Bangladeshi nationals from Khagrachari. The remaining three—Punna Lal Chakma, Twoingnu Mog, and Skiro Chakma—were residents of Gandachera in Tripura.
BSF officials stated that further questioning of the apprehended individuals is underway. A BSF spokesperson affirmed, “We remain committed to preventing illegal infiltration and ensuring peace along the International Border.”
Meanwhile, earlier this year, two Bangladeshi infiltrators were arrested at Agartala's MBB airport on January 18. The arrested women were identified as Rehana Sheikh (35) and Ankhi Sheikh (34).
According to police, the arrest had been made in front of the airport terminal when the two women were waiting to board an Indigo flight to Delhi. The police had also recovered two fake 'Aadhar' cards from the possession of the women.
