AGARTALA: A clash between the supporters of two political parties on election day of Tripura left one person hospitalised. According to reports, the clash took place outside a polling station under the Santirbazar Constituency of the state.
According to reports from the location, the victim suffered injuries on his leg because of the clash between the supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Communist Party of India. The clash happened outside the Kalacherra Polling Station when the voting process was still going on causing a temporary halt in polling.
Officials from the Election commission mentioned that the injured person was taken to a medical facility by personnel on security duty and a suo moto case was filed regarding the incident in the Santirbaazar police station of the state. They also expressed confidence in arresting the culprits soon.
Also, the injured person was found to be a worker with the Communist Party of India and he was unable to identify his attackers. The Superintendent of Police for the South Tripura district confirmed the occurrence of this untoward incident and mentioned that the situation was soon brought under control by the security personnel.
The incident reported from Santirbazar has been promptly responded to by SDPO Santirbazar, OC STB and Police/Civil Sector Officers," mentioned the Superintendent of Police for the South Tripura District. "Police and Civil sector officer were immediately rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control," he added
"A clash between BJP AND CPI was reported from Kalachera area under Santirbazar police station. Polling is continuing smoothly," mentioned the District Magistrate of South Belonia.
The national secretary of the Indian National Congress, Szarita Laitphlang tagged the Election Commission of India in a post with pictures of the injured CPI supporter saying, "BJP goons attacked Chandan Das and Shipan Majumdar in Shantir Bazar. Police were mere spectators in the entire incident,"
