AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha visited the North Tripura district on Friday. He inaugurated the Durga Puja celebrations on the occasion of Mahashashti.
The chief minister of the state is the elected Member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Dharamanagar constituency. Dr Manik Saha was accompanied by the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly Vishwa Bandhu Sen. They arrived at the Batarasi in Dharmanagar at around 11 AM on Friday. They visited the Nayanpara Kali Temple in Dharmanagar and inaugurated the Durga Puja Mandap in the location.
The Chief Minister flagged off the celebrations by ceremoniously cutting the ribbon and lighting the lamps. After the inauguration, he also took part in a puja at the Kali Mandir. The Chief Minister and the Speaker were given a warm welcome by the temple committee. Interacting with the public, the Chief Minister said he had arrived in Dharma Nagar at the invitation of chairman Vishwabandhu Sen on the occasion of Mahashashti.
Alongside the inauguration, he offered puja at the temple to wish for the welfare of the people of the state. He also wished everyone a happy Sharadiya Durga Puja. The chairman informed that they had been given Rs. 50 lakh from the MLA Development Fund to renovate Dharma Nagar Town Kalibari. He also asked the Chief Minister for assistance if more funds were needed for the reconstruction of the temple. After which the Chief Minister went to the premises of Dharma Nagar Ramakrishna Mission. He lit lamps at the temple and wished good luck to the people of the state.
Meanwhile, in a bid to avoid traffic congestion in the city during the Durga Puja festival, the Guwahati Traffic Pollice has issued a set of restrictions on vehicular movement. These restrictions have been imposed from 21 to 24 October. During the Durga Puja, goods-carrying vehicles will be allowed to enter the city from 4 AM to 10 AM and plying of the commercial goods-carrying vehicles of six wheels and above shall be restricted on NH-27 and NH-17 falling under Guwahati city from 11 AM to 12 midnight.
