Agartala: The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in Kumarghat suspended Executive Engineer Karnadata Jamatia and Sub-Divisional Officer Alok Das after a preliminary investigation revealed significant irregularities during the execution of the government's ambitious project, Nal Se Jal.

According to information obtained, the initial computation shows abnormalities of Rs 55 lakh, but it is believed the figure could surpass one crore.

It was discovered that although the department had set up water points in several regions under its jurisdiction, water was not flowing through any of them.

There was no underground pipeline, despite the department creating a water point, according to an examination. The disclosure caused a huge uproar in the entire community, which led to the two engineers being suspended.

For the past two to three years, there have been discrepancies where a lot of bills have been paid without any work being done.

It is to be noted that last month, Tripura's state government officials were commended by Chief Minister Manik Saha for their crucial role in upholding an administration free from corruption, which he characterised as an illustration of good governance.

He also encouraged people to steer away from corruption which will help in building the trust of people on the state administration. He also announced the launch of 'Amar Sarkar' that can help address the developmental issues of the local people.
