AGARTALA: Former Chief Minister of Tripura and Politburo member of the Communist Party of India, Manik Sarkar launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led state government in the process accusing it of cheating people and further exacerbating economic crises. While speaking at the CPIM Belonia Sub-division Conference, Sarkar said people must ask for a change of leadership to regain stability.

The situation in Tripura is deteriorating steadily, Sarkar said, mentioning rising prices, illegal labor practices, and black marketing. He described a dire scenario in rural areas, where unemployment and food shortages are pervasive problems, he claimed which were absent during the Left Front's tenure.

Sarkar claimed nearly 20 state departments were offering job opportunities under the Left Front government, which also meant food security and even workers migrated from other states. He also added that, people are now fighting for jobs under schemes like MGNREGA and TUEP. Starvation has made several families sell their children. Something the government does not want to accept.

Criticism extended to education and healthcare, with Sarkar highlighting the scarcity of teachers in schools and staff in hospitals. Protests by students and shuttered schools illustrate the crisis, he said, blaming the government’s inaction.

Sarkar also denounced a 23% disparity in dearness allowance between central and state employees, contrasting it with the Left regime’s consistent efforts to align state benefits with central standards.

Describing the administration of the BJP as "deceitful," Sarkar urged all citizens to stand united against the state government, which has betrayed public trust by its "false promises." He demanded a sense of urgency about fixing the problems of the state.

The conference threw light on the growing public unrest in Tripura regarding economic instability and failures in governance. Sarkar's appeal to unity and accountability had touched the chord signaling the critical moment in the political landscape of the state.
