AGARTALA: In a big boost for Tripura's infrastructure, Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb held a meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Monday.
The meeting was largely to take up the vital maintenance of the Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH-8), which is an important link for the state.
In the meeting, Deb pointed out four urgent issues regarding road connectivity in Tripura. He particularly urged the Centre to undertake immediate repair and maintenance of the NH-8 stretch between Churaibari and Panitilla in the North Tripura district.
After their meeting, Deb took to social media to post that Gadkari had assured him of the Centre's intention to address these issues.
In addition to the NH-8 maintenance, Deb presented three other road projects to Gadkari. He urged the Minister to officially designate the 148-kilometer stretch from Kamalpur to Santirbazar, passing through Ambassa and Gandacherra, as a national highway.
Furthermore, he requested the upgrade of the road from Fulkumari to Amarpur to national highway status and sought to expedite the four-laning project from Ranirbazar to the Agartala Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT).
Deb was optimistic after the meeting, saying that Gadkari understood the importance of these matters and assured that he would take necessary steps to improve road connectivity in Tripura.
