AGARTALA: An awareness session was organized by the Kolkata-based Bharat Chamber of Commerce (BCC), on Friday and the speakers there emphasized that MSMEs and startups in Tripura should focus on producing products for the defense sector using the abundant bamboo and rubber resources available in the northeastern state.
Aerospace and defense expert Balpreet Singh highlighted the potential of Tripura's capabilities that MSMEs and startups could tap into.
He mentioned that rubber could be used in the production of tires, tubes, gloves, uniforms, and other gear required by the defense sector. Singh mentioned that bamboo could be converted into biofuel, which could then be utilized in the aerospace and aviation sectors.
He said, "What is needed is proper guidance and support from the state government to seize this opportunity. Tripura's strategic proximity to Southeast Asia can attract investment for supply chain integration and logistics hubs. The abundance of rubber, bamboo, and other raw materials can be utilized for the lightweight materials needed in defense."
Meanwhile, the previous month, retired employee of the irrigation department of Doom Dooma, in the Shantipur village, gained accolades for his sheer brilliance and handiwork. By using mere simple tools such as a saw, knife, hammer, and chisel, Mahanta developed marvelous bamboo and wooden work celebrating the heritage of Assam's culture.
The creations he produced ranged from lifelike presentations of Srimanta Sankardev, idols of gods, day-to-day use articles, birds, animals, and scenes which depicted rural life.
