Tripura: North-East Japan Caravan 2024-25 Launched in Agartala to Foster Cultural Ties

The North-East Japan Caravan 2024-25 launched in Agartala, promoting cultural exchanges between India and Japan through performances, workshops, and screenings, concluding tomorrow.

AGARTALA: The North-East Japan Caravan 2024-25 was inaugurated on February 1, 2025 in Agartala, with cultural performances and educational exchange between India and Japan.

It is proof of fast-growing collaboration and cultural ties between the two nations, especially the North-East region. The event, which is organized by the Embassy of Japan in India, the Japan Foundation, and the North Eastern Regional Office of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), is a two-day event with the objective of strengthening bilateral relations.

Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Tripura, was the chief guest who talked about the cultural similarities between North-East India and Japan.

He said, "This program is to create a bridge of understanding and friendship between our nations, emphasizing the importance of language, art, and traditions in fostering fraternity."

Takashi Kobayashi, First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in India, elaborated on the developing relationship with the North-East region, noting a long history of mutual respect and cooperation. Koji Sato, Director of the Japan Foundation in New Delhi, spoke of his delight over the enthusiasm among the young towards Japanese culture, both the traditional arts and contemporary anime.

The inaugural day had spectacular performances from traditional Japanese dance and music to a cosplay show. Two films from the world of Japanese animation were screened during the event. Besides that, there were workshops on calligraphy, bamboo craft, and origami, along with judo and karate demonstrations.

Munish Singh, Director of the North Eastern Regional Office of ICCR, encouraged youths to attend the festival by welcoming it as an opportunity to discover the vibrant culture of Japan. The caravan ends tomorrow, with memories of unification in a great cultural affair.
