AGARTALA: Tripura Police have arrested two youths from Bihar in a major operation against an interstate criminal gang. The raid took place on January 25, 2025, at a hotel in Dharmanagar, located in north Tripura. The arrested individuals, Neeraj Kumar and Inder Kumar, are from Samastipur, Bihar. Police recovered a foreign-made .32 caliber pistol and a loaded magazine from their possession.
A police officer from the district confirmed that they have contacted their counterparts in Samastipur to help with the ongoing investigation. During questioning, it was revealed that both men had a criminal history. A case has been filed against them under various sections of the Arms Act at Dharmanagar police station.
This operation follows a similar arrest on January 22 in Agartala, where police captured an armed Bangladeshi suspect, Samajpriyo Chakma. He was found with a 9mm pistol and currency from both India and Bangladesh.
Authorities are working to ensure public safety and investigate any possible connections between these incidents and larger criminal activities.
Earlier this month, in a well-coordinated operation, Assam Rifles seized 60,000 methamphetamine tablets, worth Rs 12 crore, in Tripura and arrested two drug peddlers. The operation took place in the Salbagan area of West Tripura district on Monday night.
The arrested individuals, Kanai Das (36) and Kishan Kumar Sarkar (32), were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation. This operation highlights Assam Rifles’ strong commitment to fighting drug trafficking. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha recently reported a rise in drug-related arrests and HIV/AIDS cases, with significant drug seizures in the past three years.
