AGARTALA: Tripura's Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized Yaba tablets worth Rs 60 lakh from the Lokmanya Tilak Express train, which arrived in Agartala from Mumbai on January 1 late at night. The personnel, deployed at Agartala Railway Station, also detained one person in this connection.
Speaking on the issue, BK Sinha, Assistant Commandant of RPF, said that the train was traveling from Mumbai to Agartala. “When the Railway Protection Force was checking the train, we found a suspected person when the train reached Jirania Railway Station. During preliminary interrogation, when we asked him about the luggage he was carrying, he failed to provide proper answers. However, when we searched him based on suspicion, we seized Yaba tablets—around 200 packets—worth Rs 60 lakh,” he said.
The official further stated that the individual was identified as Habibul Rehman, a resident of Udaipur in the Gomati District. “He said he was coming from Silchar and that someone had handed him this bag at Badarpur to deliver it in Agartala,” the official added.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles launched a joint operation with the Tripura Police to crack down on the drug trafficking network on December 21. Given the intelligence inputs from their sources, security forces intercepted and recovered an astonishing consignment of 3.9 lakh Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 78 crores in the international market.
