AGARTALA: Three women have been arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Tripura for assaulting a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) at Manu railway station in Dhalai district. The three women, aged between 21 and 35 years, are local residents of the state.

It had happened almost a month back when the trio, with several others, was purportedly carrying bananas illicitly on a passenger train which was supposed to be headed from Manu to Agartala. While TTE Atul Kaushik asked the three about their activity, the trio admitted to having regularly used passenger trains for the purpose.

After the imposition of a fine of Rs. 3,000 for the unauthorized transport, the situation turned worse and the TTE was allegedly attacked by the women and their accomplices. The altercation left Kaushik with serious injuries, and he was taken to the hospital immediately.

After Kaushik filed a formal complaint with the GRP, an investigation was launched. The three women involved were recognized by the authorities after they examined video footage of the confrontation. And then they were taken into custody.

Nevertheless, a number of the attack's accomplices remain unaccounted for. The police are pursuing leads in an effort to apprehend the remaining offenders.

This incident brings to light the region's long-standing problem of illegal commodities being transported by passenger trains, as well as the challenges faced by railroad employees in enforcing such laws. The government reaffirms its commitment to these issues in order to protect the health and safety of both employees and passengers.
