Tripura: Tragic Death of 11th-Grade Student at Agartala Girls’ Hostel

AGARTALA: A tragic incident occurred at B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Girls' Hostel, Agartala, where an 11th-grade student was found hanging in her hostel room on Wednesday evening.

The shocking find has put the school community in deep distress and raised alarm about student welfare.

The deceased who went to Bodhjung Girls' School was found in Room No. 8 at about 5:30 PM, yet wearing her school uniform. Her death caused alarm among fellow students in the hostel.

The terrible sight was witnessed by personnel putting up electricity connections in the adjacent building. They used hand flashlights from their mobiles to look in and were faced with the pitiful view of the young girl hanging.

When the incident happened, lower-grade students were undergoing annual exams. Although the 11th-grade written exams had already taken place, practical exams were continuing. It has not yet been ascertained if academic pressure was a factor in Richa's death.

Investigators are exploring all avenues, including psychological and personal ones that could have contributed to the tragedy.

The case has heightened debate concerning student mental health and the stress that is besetting young students. Authorities are calling for support from students and urging learning institutions to increase mental health awareness campaigns. In the meantime, an investigation is ongoing as authorities try to find out the cause of Richa's premature death.
