AGARTALA: In a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF) and State Police, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested two individuals on Monday for their suspected involvement in human trafficking, as stated by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the GRP.

Officials stated that the operation was conducted in the Mati Nagar area of Sonamura, where the arrested individuals were identified as Shahid Mia (33) and Faichal Mia (19). The accused were wanted in connection with a human trafficking case and had been evading several attempts to search their residences.

Authorities suspect that more human traffickers operating in the area may be arrested as investigations and operations are ongoing. Earlier, three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at Agartala Railway Station on Sunday for illegally entering India.

In a significant crackdown, Raju Mia, a 40-year-old cross-border human trafficker, was arrested by law enforcement agencies from the Belabar area in Agartala, Tripura.

The Border Security Force (BSF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and the state police from Palpara in the West Tripura district had conducted the joint operation.

Tapas Das, the officer in charge of Agartala GRP, claimed that an ongoing investigation into a human trafficking case, which had resulted in Raju Mia's identification, had made the arrest possible.

According to Das, Raju Mia was previously accused in a case registered with the GRP and had been involved in trafficking Bangladeshi and other foreign nationals across the international border.
